In a magnificent spring packed full of scarce and rare migrant birds in Shetland, what was probably the highlight was the appearance of a Great Knot at Skaw beach on Unst. This stunning wader was found by Allan Conlin on May 30th, and remained happily feeding on the golden sands at Skaw until June 4th. It was only the sixth record for Britain of this Siberian species, and the second for Shetland - the first, way back in 1989, was also the first British record.
